New news and new format

Greeting friends! You might have noticed some signs of spring in your area with bulbs bursting open, trees in bloom, and birds returning. With all of that renewal going on, I thought it was not only time for a new blog post, but to change some of the format items. I’ll still be using this space to update my creative endeavors and appearances as well as continuing Scattered Comics news, but also include some interesting and insightful links and news that I’ve discovered that you might find useful. I’ll dividing the postings so that way you can read what you want and skip what you don’t. So let’s get this started with the news!

News

First, it was a long time coming, but I finally updated the store. All of my Blank and Dr Dream books are available for purchase in the store including the successfully funded, award winning Dr Dream: The Collection! As I come up with more items to add to the store, I’ll be sure to update the store. And hopefully not a three year gap (yikes!). In addition, there are new photos in the Fine Art America store as well as a couple more logos in the CafePress Old Reno logo store.

The Ballad of Nod campaign

As many of you know, James Burton is a dear friend of mine, a friendship forged by travels to conventions, his guest appearances at Mira Loma, and our collaboration on various comic projects. As I mentioned on the last blog, we're currently collaborating on a book version of the Writing for Comics series that I published on YouTube.

James’ latest Kickstarter is The Ballad of Nod a six issue tale that has taken years in the making. I’ve linked the campaign here as well as a couple of interviews, one with his sister Kira, who has played an integral role in the story as well as artist Ryan Kroboth. With 19 days to go, the campaign is 60% funded, so check it out and give it some support!

Hellforce: Marionette update and…a contest!

As you may or may not know, Scattered Comics co-founder Jason Dube and I are collaborating on a series that sees Alice from my Dr. Dream series and the rogue metahuman faction known as the Shadow Hunters join forces to defeat a new and powerful group known as Hellforce. We’re fast approaching the midway point in completing the book, and Jason has been posting several of the completed pages on his Patreon. My daughter Talia will be designing the front cover, so I’m very excited to have this collaboration with my kid.

And now for you artists out there, we’re featuring a contest to go along with the book. One of the Shadow Hunters, Jessika, is a lycanthrope and is able to change into a canine. Of course, when she wants to resume her human form, she’s pretty much trashed her clothes. So we decided to feature a contest where you get to decide what Jessika wears when she changes back! Here’s the details:

Looking forward to your entries!

Politics

I read the phrase “basic political intelligence” on a posting last week and that seemed apt when I watched Sam Seder take the center chair surrounded by 20 young conservative voters on the latest episode of Jubilee. It’s probably going to get you angry, maybe frustrated, but at the end of the day, as a former teacher, I can’t help but think we should make time to foster “basic political intelligence” for our youth before they vote. Yes, there are parts of our government that are very frustrating and kinda broken, but knowing how it works means we can start having substantive conversations between each other and join forces to solve those problems.

Enjoy! As always drop me line for comments or suggestions! I’d love to hear from you!
